ResumoPb1¡xEuxTe alloys are IV-VI diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) in which the energy gap can be increased from 0.31 up to 2.0 eV with the introduction of Eu2+ ions. This has attracted, in the recent years, a great interest on these alloys since they can be used as basic materials for detectors and sensors devices. Besides that, the interaction between the spin of the free carriers with the localized magnetic moments of the Eu2+ ions can signi¯cantly modify the electrical and optical properties of these alloys. The understanding of this interaction is of fundamental importance for the development of the spintronics. We have investigated the transport properties of p-type Pb1¡xEuxTe layers as a function of Eu content x varying from 0% to 10%. It is known that a metal-insulator transition (MIT) occurs for x » 10% for n-type samples [Phys. Rev. B 59, 12983 (1999)] while for p-type it occurs for x » 5% [Journal of Superconductivity 16, 1, 115 (2003)]. The metal- insulator transition is caused by disorder due to the introduction of the Eu2+ ions in the alloy and apparently this disorder is stronger in p-type samples. Magneto-transport measurements were performed in n- and p- type samples where positive and negative contributions to the magnetoresistance were observed. The positive contribution scales with the mobility of the sample and results from the ¯eld-induced redistribution of carriers between Landau levels. The negative contribution originates from quantum interference. Such interference is known as Anderson localization and is also a consequence of the disorder. To investigate the evolution of the localization e®ect with the increasing of the Eu content, we performed a series of measurements for several x values. Samples were electrically characterized (resistivity, mobility and carrier concentration) using Hall e®ect measurements for temperatures varying from 300K down to 10K. The magnetoresistance has been measured for temperatures in the range of 100K down to 1.3K while the magnetic ¯eld varies from 0 up to 17 T. The evolution of the negative magnetoresistance contribution, at low temperatures, is investigated as a function of the Eu content in the ¯lms. The ¯tting of the magnetoresistance curves in the region of negative values yield us to investigate the scattering times and the spin relaxation mechanisms present in the p-type Pb1¡xEuxTe layers and how their behavior changes with the variation of Eu content.
